The secretariat is the main building of the UN Headquarters complex.
The secretariat was finished in 1950, the whole complex in 1952.
The complex was designed by a committee of 10 architects, the United Nations board of Design.
The land for the complex was bought by John D. Rockefeller jr. and donated to New York City in 1946.
