The 16th century warehouse was named after Hessen, a city in Germany whose merchants used so-called hessen wagons to transport their goods to the warehouse.
The building is 21m wide and 60m long
The much larger nearby warehouses Oosterlingenhuis and Hansahuis were destroyed in the 19th century.
